Apartment Etiquette 101

Welcome back to the TLC Property Management Blog! Today we want to highlight a few basic but invaluable apartment living etiquette tips in celebration of September being National Courtesy Month! Be courteous to those living around you here in Springfield, MO by remembering these important pointers.

Respect others’ space, especially in common areas.

While your individual apartment may be removed from another person’s, in an apartment community you’re often sharing space with others. That may simply be the common areas like a community gym, park, or club house. But that could also mean passing areas like parking spaces and hallways. In all of these cases, keep your things out of others’ way and always strive to avoid conflict with your own things taking up space, and when you need to share space.

Clean up after yourself.

Part of showing respect and consideration for others means being aware of the messes you make and cleaning up to keep your apartment community the sparkling, high-quality place it’s meant to be. Avoid the unnecessary spreading of germs in common areas like pools, playgrounds, and community kitchens, by not using them when you’re sick and by keeping disinfectant wipes with you. If you make messes, clean up quickly to avoid long-term damage. And be aware of how your messes in your own apartment or daily life may affect others. For example, strong, unpleasant smells from your home ideally should stay there but open a window to avoid them leaking into the hallway.

Be friendly.

You don’t have to go too far out of your way to be a friendly, positive addition to your apartment community. Gauge how your actions affect others, and then do what works for you and them. Show that you can be a reliable neighbor by being open to helping out when it’s appropriate. Get to know your neighbors if you wish, or keep to yourself and show that you respect others’ right to having their own private life. Each positive action contributes to keeping the peace between neighbors and establishing good relations.

What other apartment etiquette tips do you live by? Let us know in the comments so we can all benefit! Thanks for reading, and especially for contributing to making your apartment community a great place to live here in Missouri.

Ideas for Decorating a Patio or Balcony

Several TLC Properties communities across Springfield, MO feature private patios or balconies for our residents to enjoy. Today we want to offer you a few ways you can spruce up that extra extension of your home by offering a few decorating tips for your patio or balcony that you’ll love all year long.

Seating

Patios and balconies are the perfect spot for enjoying the nice weather and clear skies we often get here in Springfield. Give yourself a chance to relax on the patio or balcony by acquiring seating that you love. Whether it’s a bench, ottoman, stool, or more extensive piece of patio furniture, take your personal tastes and how you think you’ll use the furniture into mind. Take measurements to determine how much space you have and shop around for furniture you can see yourself loving in the upcoming months.

Greenery

Plants do a lot to liven up a space and they take minimal effort, depending on what you want to do with them! Whether you want the plants to serve a purely decorational purpose or even a culinary one, get inspired and use these ideas to determine which plants to choose. Be sure to take into consideration space, how the plants might affect the design or functionality of other design elements of your patio, and how your pets may react to certain plants, to make a smooth transition from the great outdoors to your home.

Miscellaneous decor

If you don’t like plants and you want something else to decorate with, you can always use any trinkets or other decorative items that you may not have space for inside. A fishing rod, some twinkle lights, a tapestry, or even a decorative or shade umbrella could be a fun addition to your patio or balcony to give your place some personality.

What are your favorite ways to decorate your patio or balcony? Share your tips with the rest of us by leaving a comment! Thanks for reading!

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Apartment

Choosing the perfect apartment can seem like a monumental task, but you can tackle it with a few tips in your arsenal! Find the right new home for you here in Springfield, MO by trying out the apartment hunting tips in today’s TLC Property Management Blog.

Determine the scale.

Find the general vision of what you’re looking for in a home by thinking about a few different things, like what sort of feel or aesthetic you’re looking for, and how big of a space you need. Measure your furniture, go through your clothes, and donate, sell, or throw away anything you don’t love anymore, anything that doesn’t fit well, or anything that’s broken and not easily fixable.

Sort out your criteria.

Give yourself a guide to refer back to while you’re apartment hunting by writing down what you’re looking for or hoping to find in a future home. There will always be a few things that are non-negotiable or at least more important than other factors, so let yourself pay sufficient attention to those and the other factors by sorting the criteria into separate lists. Making a list of your “needs” and another one for your “luxuries” is a good starting point. Then organize a hierarchy according to which qualities mean the most to you. Here is where you should think about number of bedrooms and bathrooms, pet-friendliness, size, whether you want furnished or unfurnished options, whether there will be access to a laundry facility, location, presence of specific community amenities, and more.

Take a thorough walkthrough.

Doing the majority of your apartment hunting online is important so you can then make the most of your time in person with options you actually care about. Come prepared to each tour with the questions you may not be able to get answers online. See how the layout of the home flows for you, how easy the access to the entrances feel for you, how well you like the layout, what the parking situation or access to public transportation is like, and just in general how you might interact with the apartment in your daily life. Bring someone you trust with you to the tour so you can bounce ideas off each other and ensure all the appropriate questions are being asked.

What are your best tips for finding an apartment that best suits your needs and wants? Share your ideas with us in the comments so we can all benefit. Thanks for reading. Search our properties so you can see the beautiful options here in Springfield, MO. We look forward to hearing from you!

Swimming Pool Safety Tips

Summer is halfway through here in Springfield, MO, but it’s always a good time to brush up on some tips for staying safe as you’re having fun at a swimming pool. Many of TLC Property Management’s apartment communities feature a swimming pool that residents can use, so if you’re using one of these or another around town, keep these swimming pool safety tips in mind!

Be prepared.

There’s a lot that comes into play when being prepared. For example, prepare your reflexes and your ability to react well in the case of an emergency by first learning how to swim and perform emergency first-aid and CPR. Teach others you’re in charge of at the pool the basics of swimming so they can be prepared, too. Prevent harmful, painful sunburns and the short- and long-term effects that can come from them by using sunscreen.

Be cautious.

You don’t have to be afraid of the pool or the accidents that could occur there. But stay aware of common pitfalls so you can have a clear idea of how to prevent them and so you can encourage children you’re in charge of to do the same. Suction outlets and drains, for example, are a hidden danger that you should be aware of. Avoid being close to them so they don’t accidentally catch your hair or clothing. Pay attention to and heed the directions of posted signs listing rules and community policies. Remember to walk and not run when you’re near the pool area so you can avoid bumps, bruises, and cuts. And always keep an eye on those you’re swimming with so you can catch and fix any issues that arise quickly and efficiently.

Be courteous.

The pool is a place for everyone to enjoy, so help it stay a safe, comfortable area for them by being mindful of others’ safety and space. Doing so can help prevent people from getting caught up in a chain of accidents, and it simply makes the pool experience more enjoyable and welcoming. So keep splashing to a minimum if you’re near others and always remember to take frequent restroom breaks so the pool doesn’t have to be closed for cleaning. Every action counts toward helping everyone stay safe and happy!

Making Maple Gardens

TLC Property Management is all about providing our residents with a comfortable home environment, no matter which apartment community in Springfield, MO you’re living in. We’re not afraid of improvement, so we are open to making changes to improve the living quality of our residents and the working space of our staff. One recent example of this is our rebranding of Scenic Place as Maple Gardens. Today we’re introducing you to the property and the renovations we’ve made to better improve these apartments.

This apartment community for rent in Springfield, MO has been undergoing renovations for the past year to include staples of apartment life that will make residents’ lives much easier and more comfortable than they already are. For example, the new place includes a new office to make it easier for our staff and residents to communicate and interact with each other, a new fitness center for residents to make the most of all year long, and a new outdoor salt-water swimming pool for them to soak up the sun at.

If you haven’t already noticed these changes, maybe you’ve seen the new signs showcasing the renovations and rebranding. Every change and addition is there to help create a more unified look and feel to this updated community and to welcome potential residents to the comfortable lifestyle that awaits them there. Be sure to call our offices to schedule a tour if you’re not familiar with the space and want to learn more!

We had a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the rebranding of Scenic Place to Maple Gardens and to welcome residents to the new apartment community a few months ago, on May 25th. Were you there? What’s your favorite new addition to Maple Gardens? Let us know in the comments. Thanks for reading!

Three Books for Your Summer Reading List

Summer is a great time for catching up on your to-read list, so this week the TLC Property Management Blog has a few book recommendations for you to enjoy in your Springfield, MO apartment. Head to your favorite bookstore, your local library, or your favorite online store to find these great reads.

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Buck, a sturdy crossbreed canine (half St. Bernard, half Shepard), is a dog born to luxury and raised in a sheltered Californian home. But then he is kidnapped and sold to be a sled dog in the harsh and frozen Yukon Territory. Passed from master to master, Buck embarks on an extraordinary journey, proving his unbreakable spirit.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

Before it was a blockbuster hit, this story about genetically engineered dinosaurs kept readers captivated. The premise of the book is the same — eccentric billionaire John Hammond has created a technique to clone dinosaurs, and he has a vision for creating a park to revolutionize the way the world sees these previously extinct animals. But when a shady employee betrays the company and shuts off the park’s power, things turn south fast. Dinosaurs are set loose and the group of scientists and mathematicians struggle to outsmart the animals fast enough to survive.

Austenland by Shannon Hale

Jane Hayes doesn’t have much luck in love, partially because her obsession with Pride and Prejudice’s Mr. Darcy consumes much of her life. But when a wealthy aunt passes away and leaves her with a trip to an English resort catered to Austen-crazed women, Jane indulges in her dreams and goes. Everything’s all fun and games as she and the other women take part in this world and bask in the actors’ attention, but soon Jane starts to wonder how much is too much as she starts to fall for one — or two — of the men. This is another book with a movie adaptation, so after you’re finished reading this, be sure to get a copy of the movie for some laughs and great characterization.

Museums in Springfield to Visit

Springfield, MO is a great place to live for many reasons, one being that you can find plenty of opportunities to learn more about the world around you through its great selection of museums not far from your apartment! Today, the TLC Property Management Blog has some ideas for which museums you can visit to have a fun and fulfilling summer.

Springfield Art Museum

“Don’t forget about this gem in town! Everybody drives past it daily, but remember to stop in. It’s kid friendly, fully wheelchair accessible, and educational to boot. What’s not to love? If you have small children, go too! They have a children’s area and they allow you to close the doors to keep the children in that area and you’re free to sit down and relax while the toddlers/babies play and explore their surroundings.” — Tishia C. on Google Reviews

The Air and Military Museum of the Ozarks

“THE best hands on museum we have ever been to. My daughter enjoyed climbing into the vehicles and ‘flying’ the cobra. Highly recommend this museum.” — Kenneth D. on Trip Advisor

Discovery Center of Springfield

“This is a great place to bring the family. My kids love it and I always find something new to explore. Everything is designed for interactive, hands-on learning. The life science lab has some great experiments that let your kids (or you) be the scientists. The high wire bike is awesome and worth the extra $3 (in my opinion).” — Lance C. on Google Reviews

Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

“This was my 3rd trip to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and my wife’s first. Surprisingly, we practically had the place to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. That just gave us more time to take in the many displays on Missouri sports (at a very reasonable price of just $5 per adult). You will find exhibits on many different sports, with baseball, football, and basketball having the greatest emphasis, but there’s also smaller displays on sports such as NASCAR, tennis, horse racing, and branches of sports such as broadcasting, coaching, officiating, and sports medicine….The Hall of Fame was definitely the highlight of our trip to Springfield, and if you’re a fan of any of Missouri’s 5 pro sports teams or its college teams, it just may be the highlight of yours too.” — Bob C. on Yelp.com

What are your favorite museums in or around the city? Share your recommendations with us and any insider tips in the comments. We hope you have a great time visiting these spots!

Organize Your Closet

The apartments we manage offer residents many great amenities, including spacious closets. Today the TLC Property Management Blog is offering you some organization tips that will help you make the most of these closets all year long, wherever you live in Springfield, MO.

Start fresh. Now is the perfect time to go through your wardrobe. Start your process by taking everything out. As you do, try on items and decide which ones you still love and which you should sell, give away, or throw out. Bring a friend along for an extra opinion and make it a fun experience!

This is also a good time to take care of stains, catch up on your laundry, and brighten whites, so refer to this stain solutions guide for ways to treat any stain. Brighten your whites by soaking them in a solution of a gallon of water and ¾ a cup of baking soda. While you’re in the mode of cleaning, wipe down your shelves and sprinkle a little bit of baking soda in shoes to keep them fresh and odor-free to keep your closet and the items in it sparkling.

Once you’re ready, start putting things back in your closet with a method that makes sense with how you’ll use your items later. Sort according to style, season, type, or even color. If you’re not sure about whether you’ll keep some items, we suggest grouping these together on one side of your closet and placing them in the closet with the hangers all facing one way. Then as you use (and wash) them in weeks to come, you can put them back with the hanger facing the other direction. After a few months, if you still haven’t touched some of the hangers facing the first direction, you can see that these items are probably good for you to let go of.

Try organization hacks to open up more space. With just a bit of creativity, you can find ways to organize your closet in a visually pleasing, space-saving way. Tip Hero offers 21 genius suggestions for organizing your closet that you might find success with. We especially love the idea of using holiday ornament boxes to organize your socks or using pillowcases to keep matching sheets together.

What are your best tips and hacks for organizing your closet? Share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment. Thanks for reading!

Apartment Etiquette 101

Apartment Etiquette 101

Welcome back to the TLC Property Management Blog! Today we want to highlight a few basic but invaluable apartment living etiquette tips in celebration of September being National Courtesy Month! Be courteous to those living around you here in Springfield, MO by remembering these important pointers.

Respect others’ space, especially in common areas.

While your individual apartment may be removed from another person’s, in an apartment community you’re often sharing space with others.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Apartment

Three Books for Your Summer Reading List

You will find exhibits on many different sports, with baseball, football, and basketball having the greatest emphasis, but there’s also smaller displays on sports such as NASCAR, tennis, horse racing, and branches of sports such as broadcasting, coaching, officiating, and sports medicine….The Hall of Fame was definitely the highlight of our trip to Springfield, and if you’re a fan of any of Missouri’s 5 pro sports teams or its college teams, it just may be the highlight of yours too.” — Bob C. on Yelp.com

Organize Your Closet
