St. Patrick's Day in Springfield: Best Ways to Celebrate
You don’t need a flight to Ireland to experience an authentic St. Patrick’s Day. Lucky you, Springfield, MO offers some of the best St. Patty’s celebrations around! Themed parades, pub crawls, pet costume contests, Irish buffets, and activities for the wee ones ensure that everyone young and old will have a grand ol’ time.
Before the town is painted green, why not brush up on some St. Patrick’s Day trivia? Did you know:
We should actually wear blue. Saint Patrick himself preferred the color “Saint Patrick’s light blue.” The color green only became associated with the holiday after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.
It takes tons of dye to paint Chicago green. Chicago has been celebrating Saint Patrick since 1962 by dumping 40 tons of green dye into the Chicago River. Talk about painting the town green!
There’s no corn in the beef. Corned beef and cabbage, a traditional St. Patrick’s Day staple, doesn’t have anything to do with corn as we know it. Instead, it’s a reference to the large grains of salt that were historically used to cure meats, also known as “corns.”
Take your newfound knowledge on the town this year and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 417-style! Read on to discover the top picks from TLC Properties for the best ways to celebrate.
